Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre
Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre (CRC), operated by McLaren Park Henderson South Community Trust (MPHS), is a leading recycling hub in Western Springs.
Established in 2022 through a partnership with Auckland Council, the centre aims to improve waste management and promote sustainability.
The name “Waiōrea,” chosen during community consultation, reflects the cultural and ecological heritage of Western Springs Lake, meaning “waters of the eel.”
Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre offers drop-off points for recyclables and reusables, supporting local environmental efforts. Its educational program, Our Pū Mātauranga, fosters environmental awareness and community involvement.
Guided by our Whakataukī , “Whiria te tangata, whiria te taiao, kia puāwai ai te ora o te ao” (Weave the people, weave the environment, so that the life of the world will flourish), the center highlights the connection between people and nature.
Education Hub (Pū Mātauranga)
The Education Hub (Pū Mātauranga) within Waiōrea CRC combines heritage and modern sustainability. This space hosts events such as school sessions, markets, and conferences, all in rooms rich with historical narratives. Equipped with essential amenities, it fosters discussions on sustainable futures, inspiring environmental consciousness.
Waiōrea CRC is a hub for waste reduction, environmental education, and community engagement, working towards a sustainable future for Auckland and beyond.
