The Surrey Cres Working Group is organising a protest this Friday and next Friday to encourage Auckland Transport not to remove parking spaces outside the shops to create a major bus transit centre.
Instead of locating the new, double-length bus stops smack bang in the middle of the shops, the solution is to move the bus stops ever so slightly to the edge of the shopping centre, thereby preserving the short-stay car parks that residents need to pick up takeaways, nip into the butcher, chemist, dairy, etc, and collect mail from the PO boxes.
Here’s the working group’s flyer…

What personally annoys me is that Grey Lynn is already disadvantaged with an infrequent bus service that also meanders around Ponsonby for commuters to get from Grey Lynn to the city and now the council want to disadvantage the community further with reducing parking spacing for shoppers. If residents are proposing a viable option, it would seem logical to accept it – especially as this is the collective voice of the community. Let the decision be about what the community wants.
