Ready to roll up your sleeves for a good cause? Grey Lynn Park trees need your help to stay healthy and vibrant through the coming summer season!

A Call to Action for Local Green Thumbs

Auckland Council has generously provided two large piles of mulch, one strategically placed at the Rose Road entrance and the other near field two.

Now, it’s up to us – the community – to ensure this nutrient-rich mulch reaches its intended destination: around the bases of our park’s magnificent trees.

What You Need to Know

Date: Sunday 20 October
Time: 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM
Meeting Point: Mulch pile at the entrance to Rose Road Gully

What to Bring

  • Wheelbarrow (if you have one)
  • Shovel or spade
  • Rake
  • Your community spirit!

Why Mulching Matters

Mulching is vital for tree health, helping to:

  • Retain soil moisture
  • Suppress weed growth
  • Regulate soil temperature
  • Improve soil structure over time

By participating, you’re not just helping trees – you’re investing in the future of our community green space.

Rain or Shine, We’re Making It Happen!

This event will proceed regardless of weather conditions. After all, a little rain never stopped dedicated community members!

Plus, working together is a fantastic way to meet your neighbours and contribute to the park we all love.

The Power of Community

“Many hands make light work,” as the saying goes. In just 90 minutes, we can make a significant impact on the health and longevity of our park’s trees.

It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we come together as a community.

Get Involved

This wonderful initiative is organised by The Friends of Grey Lynn Park, a group dedicated to preserving and enhancing our local green spaces in Grey Lynn.

Whether you can spare the full 90 minutes or just pop by for a short while, every contribution counts.

Bring the whole family – it’s a great opportunity to teach children about community service and environmental stewardship.

Ready to Help?

Mark your calendars, tell your neighbours, and come join us for a morning of rewarding community service. Together, we’ll ensure our park’s trees thrive for years to come.

See you there, Grey Lynn!

  1. What day is the working bee on? Saturday, the 19th, or Sunday, the 20th?

    • Sunday 20th. Sorry for the confusion, our mistake! The article has now been edited with the correct date.
