Hakanoa Recovery Group – What’s It All About?

Hakanoa Recovery Group has an interest in the nearby properties that were compulsorily purchased after the 2023 Anniversary Weekend floods.

Anyone walking through the Hakanoa Reserve over the last week will have a noticed a letterbox with a stack of postcards on top, inviting you to make comments about the future of the sites, alongside and across the road, that have been compulsorily purchased by Auckland Council.

The Hakanoa Recovery Group are interested individuals, many of whom have had a long-term interest in the reserve, and have expended countless hours transforming it into the delightful public green space that it is today.

Early consultation with the Waitemata Local Board resulted in a stay of demolition for the house at 33 Cockburn Street, alongside the reserve.

All the other affected buildings have now been demolished.

Auckland Council officers are open to considering options for the house at 33 Cockburn, but any decision is incumbent on their strategy for all these sites citywide.

The Council will be consulting with local groups and this questionnaire is inviting suggestions from the broader public in this area.

The aim is to collate the information for a presentation to the Local Board at their next scheduled meeting on February 18th.

So head along to Hakanoa Reserve and grab a card and have your say and leave your details if you’d like to engage further in the process.
